PSİ 582-Clinical Practices and Supervision I
Branch X (Analytical approach): The aim of this course is to improve the ability of students to perform psychotherapeutic intervention under clinical supervision by applying the basic framework of the psychoanalytic approach. In addition, in order to be able to experience the characteristics of the clinical environment, the student is expected to practice internally in a clinically intervening institution. The clinical supervision is carried out by means of a face-to-face or other possible communication with the student, after a regularly scheduled interview with the client every week. Clinical supervision (at least 8 weeks of therapeutic treatment should be included) and 70% of the evaluation note constitutes a clinical internship.
Branch Y (Cognitive Approach): Students taking the PSİ 582 and PSİ 594 Clinical Practice and Supervision I and II courses are expected to apply the theoretical basis they have acquired from courses such as Clinical Evaluation in Clinical Psychology, Clinical Interview: Principle and Techniques, Psychopathology, Psychotherapy Methods in the course of psychotherapy.
For this purpose, it is required that the student gain experience in the clinical environment, perform clinical evaluation together with supervision support, form a case formulation and apply appropriate psychotherapy techniques. It is aimed that the students who are expected to be sensitive about the ethics of psychotherapy will protect and develop their professional competence through this course. It is expected that students will also be able to contribute to the self-awareness that is expected to increase in this process. In line with the stated objectives, students are required to attend classes and meet the conditions of the course.
Since the supervision process is highly possible to learn from the experiences of other students, the responsibilities of the students are not limited to their own clinical experience and the cases they follow. Role plays in this framework are frequently used in the course of the practice, such as hypothetical case formulations, and students are encouraged to take advantage of intra-group interaction. The theoretical content of supervision support will be determined by taking into consideration the learner's experience and experience with the instructor's past education and experience. Expectations related to the course and the evaluation procedure will be shared with the students at the beginning of the semester and if necessary will be tried to be decided together with the necessary changes. In line with these objectives, students will be assessed in relation to course attendance, meeting expectations, and developing the ability to transfer existing theoretical knowledge to practice in psychotherapy.
Branch Z (Psychodynamic/Body Psychotherapy Approach):
This branch is only open to students enrolled in the ?Clinical Psychology MA Programme with Body Psychotherapy Certificate.? The aim of this course is to improve the ability of students to perform psychotherapeutic intervention under clinical supervision by applying the basic framework of the body psychotherapy approach. Students are expected to apply the theoretical basis they have acquired from courses such as clinical assessment, clinical interviewing, psychopathology and psychotherapy methods. For this purpose, it is required that the student gain experience in the clinical environment, perform clinical evaluation together with supervision support, form a case formulation and apply appropriate psychotherapy techniques. Students will also learn the ethics of psychotherapy delivery and are expected to develop professional competences (including self-awareness, transference and counter-transference) through this course. Students are required to attend classes and meet the requirements of the course. Since the supervision process in psychotherapy courses allow students to learn from each other, they are expected to share their own clinical experiences and case studies. Role plays, hypothetical case formulations and inter-group interactions are part of the course practical activities. The theoretical contents, methods of supervision and support, students? past experience, and education, will be all be taking into consideration. Student and staff expectations and evaluation procedures will be shared with the students at the beginning of the semester. In line with these objectives, students will be assessed in relation to course attendance, meeting expectations, and developing the ability to transfer existing theoretical knowledge to practice in psychotherapy.
Students on the MA course will particular have access to a range of potential supervisors through Maltepe University Research and Application Centre for Street Children (SOYAÇ). Maltepe University Research and Application Centre for Street Children (SOYAÇ) was established in 2010 with the principal aim to develop research and application projects to assist in the rehabilitation of street children and children at risk. SOYAÇ is the first and the only one center of its kind in Turkey, operating within a university context. The Centers? projects are carried out with active involvement of undergraduate and postgraduate university students who acknowledge the great benefits for their education and professional development, and, consequently, for the quality of their higher education.
