The purpose of the Harmony-I course is to comprehend the elements that constitute the basis of polyphonic music such as functions, cadences and the connections. This course covers writing in four parts, basic cadences such as perfect cadence, imperfect cadence and harmonization of chant in the root position with diatonic triads.

As a following course of Harmony-I is based on to comprehend the connection rules of functions. This course covers harmonization of chant within first inversions of diatonic triads, cadences (plagal cadence, interrupted cadence) and harmonic analysis.
