Most variables studied in educational research cannot be observed directly. In order to study such unobservable constructs, also called latent variables, we need valid and reliable measurement instruments that draw upon solid theoretical foundations. This course aims to teach graduate students how to develop or adapt instruments (scales) that can be used in educational research.

The development of the child during pre-birth, birht and after birth, the factors affecting the development, the theories and theorists of development and learning will be discussed.

The theoretical opinions which are the basis of the development of pre-school education and the programs prepared in light of these theories will be developed and discussed.

Basic concepts related to statistics, regulation of data, applications in statistical package programs: It is aimed to gain the ability to do statistical analysis with SPSS package program. Course contents Multi-Factor ANOVA, Multi-Factor MANOVA, Covariance Analysis, Multiple Regression Analysis, Non-parametric Statistical Techniques (Mann-Whitney, U Test, Wilcoxon Test, Kruskal Wallis Test, Freidman Test, Cohron Test).

Examination and monitoring of motor, language, cognitive, social, emotional development and self-care skills of 0-8 years old children, recognition and application of development methods and tools.

Delays in the development of preschool children, problems arising from the individual and the environment, identifying risk factors, early diagnosis in Turkey and in the world, examination of the early intervention programs.

The value of the child, children in the social history, culture of the child, intercultural studies and the child, parent education studies, media, school and social culture, policies and values related to the child, participation of the child, children's rights, controversial issues-problem areas (child abuse and neglect, employee children, violence in education, etc.) will be examined and discussed in light of relevant theories and empirical researches.

Understanding the importance of movement needs of preschool children, using appropriate methods and techniques for movement development studies, developing, applying and evaluating games that will support children's large muscle development, and supporting children's psychomotor development through games developed. The importance of movement education in pre-school education, exercise for a healthy life, the role of physical activities in the evaluation of leisure time, knowledge and use of tools and materials related to physical activities. Scientific method and research, basic concepts and approaches, universe and sample, data collection, observation,historical method, data processing, analysis and interpretation will be discussed.

Measurement instruments are used in psychology to categorize, order and/or quantify constructs being studied. Research and ultimately science rests heavily on measurement and as such measurement with sound instruments makes scientific progress possible. This course aims to provide information about the measurement tools specifically in psychology for the students in guidance and psychological counseling master program. Besides, another main aim of this course is to educate the students on the development and adaptation process of psychological measurement tools.
