In this course, the field of counseling is discussed in terms of concepts and techniques regarding to changing needs of individuals and society. The course includes contemporary theories (psychoanalytical, Adlerian, existential, gestalt, behavioral, feminist, and solution based brief therapy) and pracrices.

General concepts in family and group counseling, definitions, specifying members of family and group, structure of family and group, theurapathic activities for solving problem in families and groups.

Standard deviation measures, asymmetry and variability, normal distribution, hypothesis testing.

Discussion of general concepts within the field, psychoanalytic theory and individual counseling cases.

Psychological counselors work with families as well as individuals. In this context, the aim of this course is to examine the theoretical foundations, intervention methods and implications of current family counseling approaches (as Systemic and Strategic, Structural, Intergenerational, Experiential, Cognitive Behavioral, Narrative, Solution-oriented and Post-modern approaches). The course will cover the philosophical roots of each family counseling approach, its purpose, the consultation process, the role of the consultant, theoretical case documentation and case presentations. In terms of psychological counseling, it is aimed to drawing attention to the development of family counseling in Turkey, in order to provide information about the application to revise their existing family counseling and family counseling practitioners to practice-oriented studies.

The fundamentals of scientific research, defining problems, sampling methods, qualitative and quantitative research.

Graduate research will be prepared for non-thesis master degree program.
